But you should not fertilize your bonsai in spring because it may harm the root system of your tree. It is forbidden to fertilize bonsai plants at springtime.
You see the maximum growth of your bonsai during summer. You should use late winter or early spring to prune and repot your tree but you can trim or prune it in summer too, especially those shoots that are growing too quickly. On deciduous trees the shoots must be cut to a pair of leaves.
Wire your bonsai during summer as it is correct time for this procedure. Shape your tree and train it, remove all the previous wire if your tree is already in shape.
Control the soil and when it is hot, water your bonsai daily, and even twice a day. You should fertilize your tree in summer as it needs much feeding then.
Autumn and winter slow down all the growing processes in bonsai trees. Do not prune your plant in autumn and give your tree rest in winter and remove all the wire from the trunk and branches of the tree. Do not water your tree much in winter.

If you want to shape and train your deciduous tree, it is the right time to apply wire. And you can remove any previous wire if the trunk of the tree and its branches are in their desired position already.
Control the soil in the bonsai tray regularly and do not allow the soil dry completely. Water your bonsai daily in extremely hot weather and sometimes even more than once a day. It is the right time to feed your bonsai plants with fertilizer as most bonsai trees require feeding in summer.

And bonsai lovers should find the balance between the first two reasons because the third one is very easy to solve.
You should keep the soil in your bonsai tray moist but not wet. When the surface of the soil seems dry, you should scratch one centimeter below the surface and see how it looks there. But sometimes the surface of the soil may look wet but at the same time it can be completely dry below. In this case the bonsai tree needs water and it must be soaked in a bowl of water until the soil in the tray is wet through.

They need enough sunlight, wind and rain, fresh air and even snow. They are all very important for normal growth and the tree health that is why you should keep your bonsai outside too. Of course, you will have a desire to keep your tiny bonsai creature inside as much as possible because you want to demonstrate your guests your bonsai as a thing of beauty and to get admiration your handy work. However, the best rule for this is to keep bonsai tree inside your home only one week in a month and keep it outside for the rest three weeks.
To make a resume. There are three main ways to keep your bonsai tree alive and healthy.
You should not over water it. Also you should know underwater it as too much water can kill bonsai trees even quicker than lack of water. And you should not keep your bonsai tree inside for long as it usually causes slow and painful death of the plant.
